THL planted some of the first Albariño vines in NZ and has persevered with this rewarding variety to offer a unique wine for wine lovers.
Hailing from Spain and Portugal, Albariño wine often exhibits stone fruit, golden pear, jasmine, and ripe citrus characters. The fruit has thick skins, small berries and loose bunches ideal for the climate of Gisborne. This variety is often crafted in a light fruity style, sometimes showing prominent tannins. We make it to accentuate its best features, hand harvested for whole bunch pressing to reduce bitterness then fermenting in matured oak barriques to maximise texture. A super sophisticated version, Thompson's Albariño wine is perfect to enjoy with excellent seafood.
